Chef Matt was asked by a neighbor if he might be interested in making drop-off meals for him on a regular basis. His neighbor, Wells, was looking for delicious meals that would be easy for him to heat and eat. Challenge accepted! Wells loved his meals, particularly the variety and fresh delicious quality. And Matt loved preparing and delivering them. The ongoing interaction with a regular was heart-warming, and the creative fun of planning and designing menus has been inspiring. With interest from others wanting in on these easy and made-with-love dinners, Meals By Mateo was born.

Matt draws on his education, lessons from a family of culinary experts, and experience working with chefs from Sonoma and Napa to Paso Robles to create delicious wine country style, seasonally inspired food.

Working in the Italian school kitchen where he attended near Florence as a student, 'Mateo' learned the tricks of the trade from the local Italian cooks and found a love for preparing meals for groups from scratch.

Matt pursued food science and winemaking at Fresno State (Go Bulldogs!), receiving accolades with award-winning wines, before getting back into the culinary world full time as a private chef, catering and delivering delicious meals in Sonoma and Napa Counties.

Chef Matt - Mateo! as he is known by some (Garbanzo by many others), operates out of Spork Kitchen, a shared kitchen space with boutique culinary professionals in Napa, CA.
